ADB President Backs Viet Nam’s “Era of National Rise”

ADB President Masato Kanda met Viet Nam’s President To Lam this weekend, pledging fast support for the country’s next growth phase with a 2026–2029 pipeline of $5–6 billion across transport, energy, water, agriculture, and education.

Energy Energy is one key priority. Under the ASEAN Power Grid, ADB is helping Viet Nam build cross-border links—including plans to import 8 gigawatts from the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in the near term—as part of its $30 billion regional commitment by 2030.

President Kanda Joins G7 Meeting, Visits Bangladesh

From 18 to 25 May 2026, ADB President Masato Kanda joined the G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting in Paris before traveling on to Bangladesh. In Paris, he spoke about how multilateral development banks are mobilizing to support countries hit by the the Middle East conflict. In Bangladesh, he capped the trip with funding announcements totaling $5 billion.
